Strategic Litigation Training for Rwanda Bar Association Members

On 21st December 2018 at Orient Part Hotel /Nyarutarama, Rwanda Bar Association (RBA) conducted a training on Strategic Litigation for its members, fully supported by USAID Duteze Imbere Ubutabera (DIU) Project.. The Aim of this training is to help lawyers, especially the members of RBA to fully understand the Public interest litigation under Rwandan Law and explain how it is linked with daily professional activities of Lawyers. The topic was supported inline to strengthen legal professional capacity to contribute in strengthening Judicial process and access to justice in Rwanda.
DIU representative, Mr Mugisha Frank explained the objectives of Duteze Imbere Ubutabera and the components that include Members of Rwanda Bar Association as one of the Justice Sector Institutions being supported by USAID to strengthen their capacity as they promote Access to Justice in Rwanda, particularly Professional legal practitioners.
The training focused on the following topics
1. Explaining the concept of Public interest litigation and the basic concept relating to Public interest litigation
2. Explain how PIL is linked with daily Professional activities of Lawyers
3. Observe the key PIL in Rwandan Law
4. Clarify the Public Interest litigation in Rwandan legal framework
Trainees expressed immense interest in the above topics, emphasizing that the training will greatly empower them to efficiently promote Access to Justice across the country.
